2008-09: Aulie tallied six goals and 33 points in 58 games with the Wheat Kings (WHL), career-high numbers for the towering defenseman; he tallied another pair of goals and nine points in the postseason and earned WHL East All-Star Team honors for his efforts. 2009-10: Keith started his season off as a rookie on the Abbotsford Heat blueline, playing in 43 games and helping out with two goals and four assists. On January 31st he was packaged with Dion Phaneuf in a trade to the Maple Leafs, where he played five games with the Marlies before he had a season ending shoulder injury.
2010-11: Aulie appeared in 40 games for the Leafs as a 21-year-old after being recalled from the AHL Marlies. He first joined the Leafs in November but saw limited ice-time in a 12-game stretch and was returned to the Marlies. He saw more extensive action after being recalled in February, playing at least 20 minutes in 22 of the Leafs’ last 28 games. In 40 NHL games he finished -1 and scored 2 goals with 32 PMs. In 36 AHL games with the Marlies, Aulie scored 3 goals with 9 assists and was an even plus/minus with 61 PMs.
2011-12: The hulking defenseman would be traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning on February 27th in exchange for forward Carter Ashton.
Talent AnalysisAulie’s main asset is his enormous size (6’5), and ability to read and adapt to plays. He’s used in critical defensive situations and maximizes his physical prowess when necessary. While he has an interesting combination of size, skating ability and willingness to move the puck it's unlikely he develops a high offensive ceiling.
FutureAulie is penciled into a starting six spot with the Toronto Maple Leafs for the 2011-12 season.
Projection: Defensive stalwart, with complimentary top-four capability.
