2010-11: Kris Khenkel skated for the Yunost 2011-born team in his hometown of Minsk in Belarus.

2011-12: Khenkel played for the Junost junior team in the Belarus High League and MHL and represented Belarus in two international tournaments. He scored 1 goal with 7 assists and 45 penalty minutes in 27 games in the Belarus High League and was -6 with 1 assist and 12 penalty minutes in 29 MHL games. Khenkel scored 1 goal with 1 assist playing for the Belarus U17 team. He played in the 2012 Division 1B U18 World Junior Championship, scoring 2 goals and finishing +7, in five games. Khenkel was selected by Dinamo Minsk in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2012 KHL Draft.

2012-13: Khenkel played pro hockey in Belarus as a 16-year-old — skating for Yunost Minsk in both Russia's second league (VHL) and in the Belarus High league — and skated for the Yunost junior team. He scored 1 goal with 1 assist and was -4 in six VHL games. Khenkel had 1 assist and was -13 with 22 assists in 27 regular season games in the Belarus High league and had no points and 2 penalty minutes in two playoff games. In 21 MHL games with the Yunost junior team he scored 1 goal with 3 assists and was +5 with 12 penalty minutes. Khenkel played for Belarus' gold medal-winning U18 team in the 2012 Division 1B World Junior Championship. He scored 2 goals and was +7 in five games. Khenkel was selected by Lethbridge (WHL) in the first round (22nd overall) in the 2013 CHL Import Draft.

2013-14: Khenkel joined the WHL's Lethbridge Hurricanes in January following the 2014 World Juniors, after his the IIHL originally turned down his transfer agreement in October. He spent he first half of the season with MHK Yunost and Yunior Minsk and played for Belarus' U20 team in the 2014 Division 1A World Junior Championship. Khenkel scored 1 goal with 3 assists and was -21 with 21 penalty minutes in 29 games for Lethbridge. The Hurricanes finished last in the Central Division; winning a league-low 12 games. Khenkel had 3 assists and was +5 with 20 penalty minutes in 11 MHL games and scored 1 goal with 2 assists and 2 penalty minutes in four games for Yunior Minsk. He had 1 assist and was +2 with 4 penalty minutes in five games at the D1A WJC tournament.
