History
The 6’1, 170-pound Lazaruk has been ranked 7th among North American goaltenders by the Central Scouting Bureau heading into the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Lazaruk was named to the U18 National Team and competed in the World Championship tournament in Sweden in April.
Lazaruk, born in Edmonton, Alberta, played his bantam hockey with the Canadian Athletic Club’s bantam AAA team in his hometown. Kootenay chose him in the seventh round of the 2003 WHL draft. Lazaruk played in each of the Ice’s first 20 games this season while starter Taylor Dakers recovered from a hip injury. By all accounts, the rookie netminder exceeded expectations.
In 31 games as a WHL rookie, Lazaruk compiled a 15-8-1-2 record, a goals against average of 2.55, and a save percentage of .912.
Cory Clouston, Kootenay Head Coach: "Kris had a tough situation to step into with our number one goaltender being out for the first 20 games. Kris had to start 19 of our first 20 games. It wasn’t easy, but I think he made the best of it. And it was a great experience for him.”
