Prospect Grade: 6.0 F (About Prospect Grades)
History
Bolf was drafted in by the Pittsburgh Penguins with their sixth round (169th overall) selection of the 2003 Entry Draft. In 2001-02, Bolf played in the Finnish Junior league, and then returned home for a season at HC Sparta Praha in the Czech U20 league. After the Penguins drafted him, he decided to enter the CHL Import Draft and was selected 27th overall by the Barrie Colts of the OHL. He played in 56 games for two consecutive seasons for the Colts, but in 2005-06, returned to the Czech Republic and is now playing for HC Sparta Praha of the Czech Extraliga. In 2005, he played in seven games for the Czech National Team at the World Junior Championships.
Talent Analysis
A sturdy blueliner, Bolf is a fluid skater who brings a nice offensive flair to the mix. He is a good outlet passer and he uses his long reach effectively. Bolf quite frequently joins the offensive rush and has solid shooting skills, but he needs to showcase them more frequently. On the downside Bolf has to further improve his positioning and defensive zone coverage. He tends to make mistakes when pressed by an opponent and is still very raw. He could show more of a nasty edge in his play, too. If he were a bigger force defensively, he could be among the best Czech players his age.
