The Blackhawks are stockpiled with young talent, especially down the middle and on defense. Six of those prospects got a look at some point during the 2014-15 season, the most notable being Finnish phenom Teuvo Teravainen.
However, with Chicago having eliminated the Minnesota Wild in the 2015 Stanley Cup playoffs, it’s quite evident head coach Joel Quenneville feels more comfortable playing his seasoned veterans in the postseason as supposed to the rookies. Teravainen and Joakim Nordstrom only dressed for two games in the first round series against the Nashville Predators, while defenseman Michael Paliotta has been a healthy scratch.
One’s a little bigger and has a bit more physicality to his game, while the other is slightly smaller, but has a little more offensive flair. One’s more serious and business-like in his approach; the other’s a little more jovial and laissez-faire. The question of which one preferred country and which preferred rock ‘n roll wasn't asked.
Hudon, who plays for the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the QMJHL, was unable to participate at the 2013 World Junior Championship after injuring his back. Enter McNeill of the WHL's Prince Albert Raiders, who replaced Hudon on Team Canada's roster shortly before the start of the tournament.
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Mark McNeill of the Prince Albert Raiders is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 29 after scoring five goals and three assists for eight points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-7.
McNeill began his week last Wednesday night by scoring four goals for the first time in his career and added an assist to match a season-high of five points in one game despite a 6-5 loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers where he was named second star. He also scored a goal on Friday night as part of a 7-6 win over the Kootenay Ice, and recorded two assists on Saturday in a 6-3 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
McNeill, an 18-year-old from Edmonton, Alberta, is playing in his third full WHL season with the Raiders. The first round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft has 55 points in 47 games this season with 23 goals and 32 assists.
