Mark Mitera

Prospect Grade: 7.5 B  (About Prospect Grades)

Profile Contributed By: Kevin Forbes

History

Mitera is one of the most highly-regarded collegians eligible for this year’s NHL draft. The 6’3/210 lbs. defenseman from Livonia, MI posted ten points (all assists) in 39 appearances this season. Mitera, a CCHA All-Rookie Team honorable mention, was one of three University of Michigan Wolverines who represented the United States at the 2006 IIHF WJC in Vancouver.

Talent Analysis

Mitera is a superb combination of size, strength, toughness and skating ability. For a man his size, Mitera skates extremely well with smooth yet powerful strides. He can deliver some bone-crushing checks and doesn’t shy away from the physical aspects of the game. He takes full advantage of his size and strength in playing his position. Mitera possesses some great puck skills along with a hard, cannon-like shot that allow him to potentially develop into more than just your average defensive defenseman.

Future

Returning to Michigan for his junior season, Mitera will look to rebound and he'll also be in line to take on even more responsibility on the Wolverines' defensive squad. Continuing to deliver everything as advertised, he should be more then ready to make the leap to professional hockey soon although he may need some time in the minors before challenging for an NHL spot.
