2009-10: In his first full professional season, Mitera split time between the AHL and ECHL, playing for both Abbotsford and San Antonio of the AHL, where he posted a total of 3 assists in 32 games, while posting 3 goals and 11 assists in 36 games for the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL.
2010-11: Mitera appeared in 71 games for AHL Syracuse in his second pro season. More of a stay-at-home defenseman, Mitera topped 20 points in a season for the first time since his junior season in college with 6 goals and 16 assists for the Crunch. He had 50 PMs. and his -15 plus/minus was unsightly but could be partially attributed to playing significant minutes for the Crunch, who finished sixth in the AHL's East Division and did not make the playoffs. Mitera was obtained by Montreal in a trade for defenseman Mathieu Carle in July 2011.
