What was supposed to be a promising, playoff-bound season for the Columbus Blue Jackets turned into a disappointing, tumultuous year. Once pegged as the franchise’s star center, Ryan Johansen was dealt to the Nashville Predators in a swap for Seth Jones and the team exercised a goaltending carousel of Sergei Bobrovsky, Curtis McElhinney and rookie Joonas Korpisalo. A little over a month ago, the Columbus Blue Jackets AHL affiliate was mired in mediocrity. The first year of the Lake Erie M0nsters’ affiliation with the Jackets, while working well logistically, wasn’t producing a winning product in the NHL or AHL. The 2014-15 season in Finland‘s Liiga will be an interesting one if only for the absence of long-time Helsinki club Jokerit, which bolted the league to compete in the KHL. Vaasa Sport, which finished second in Mestis last year but won back-to-back championships in 2010-11 and 2011-12, moves up to fill Jokerit’s spot in the 14-team league. Read more»
