Martin Cizek played for HC Slavia Praha growing up. He played his way through all the age categories and last season he played for the juniors of Slavia as an underage.
In 2001-02, Cizek was counted on as one the leaders of the Slavia Praha defensive corps. No wonder that he fills this role also in the Under-18 team, just like he did for the Under-17 and Under-16 team. He missed only three tournaments during the two years.
Cizek was drafted by Plymouth in the CHL Import Draft, and played for the Whalers in the 2002-03 season.
Cizek played only one game at the Elite League level in 2004-05.
Cizek is very reliable stay-at-home defenseman who is almost mistake-free. He is calm
and poised and makes smart decisons with the puck. Rather than making a risky play, he tries to keep his play simple.
Cizek is a very good, mobile skater with a terrific vision
and hockey sense. He always stays in position and is extremly tough to beat in one-on-one
situtations. His superb vision allows him to read the plays well and be at the right place
at the right time. He has some offensive upside but he prefers to concentrate on
his defensive duties.
He has a decent outlet pass but is better to be paired with a rusher.
Cizek posesses a very good size and is willing to use the body when fighting along the boards
or in front of the net. He doesn't deliver booming hits, he does hit only when it is
really needed and he could be more tougher.
