History
Selected to Slovakia's U18 Squad, where he drew the attention of NHL scouts as the top player on a weak Slovak team. Ranked 53rd in Europe by CSS for the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Selected by the Kootenay Ice in the 2003 CHL Import Draft. Named to the Slovakian 2004 World Junior Championship team. Named Kootenay's top rookie for the 2003-04 season, finishing tied for sixth in WHL rookie scoring.
Talent Analysis
The big winger had a solid year and earned some pro experience with Trencin's Extraliga club last season. He missed some games last year due to injury, and may have slipped down the draft rankings as a result. Sagat is a strong player who is not afraid to get involved physically. While not the most natural goal scorer around, he generates offense through hard work and determination, as well as his excellent awareness on the ice and passing skills. He is an excellent penalty killer who uses his long reach to intercept passes and break up plays. He is an above-average skater for his size, and has good balance on his skates; making it hard to knock him off the puck. Still needs to add strength, and still has room to upgrade his skating.
Future
When he fills out his lanky frame, Sagat has the potential to be an intimidating force on the ice.
