Q&A with Matt Auffrey from October 2007.
Talent Analysis
A big guy, Auffrey has power forward potential. He skates well, possesses a booming shot and handles the puck well. He does however lack a top-end speed and isn't always consistent with his effort. He needs to learn how to use his body effectively and improve his play without the puck.
Future
Auffrey finds himself in an extremely unique situation in 2007-08. Scheduled to play in either the AHL or the ECHL, he will do so without an NHL contract, but his rights will continue to be owned by the Anaheim Ducks until the summer of 2008. This is all due to the fact he was drafted out of the NCAA and then left the college program to play junior hockey in the OHL. In any case, Auffrey has a year of minor pro hockey to audition for a contract.
