History
Gilroy was the recipient of the Hobey Baker Award and a participant in Boston University’s National Title team the week he was signed by the Rangers to an entry-level contract. The senior defenseman from Long Island, New York, was originally a walk-on to the Terriers’ team, and turned down several free agent contracts to return to BU for his senior season. Named to a First Team Hockey East All-Star for the third team during the 2008-09 season, Gilroy was also named to the All-America First Team for his work along the Terriers’ blueline. The captain of Boston University’s men’s hockey team in his senior year, Gilroy led all defensemen in the Hockey East in scoring and was third among all collegiate blueliners for the 2008-09 season.
