History

2013-14: Max Jones competed for the Detroit Honeybaked U18 team in the HPHL. In 25 games for that team, Jones scored nine goals and 13 assists to go along with 123 penalty minutes. He was chosen in the first round, 18th overall, of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection by the London Knights. Jones is the son of former NHL forward Brad Jones.

2014-15: Jones competed for the U.S. National Development Team Program (NTDP) in this campaign. In 24 games for the USHL squad, he scored five goals and added five assists for 10 points to go along with 116 penalty minutes. In addition, Jones played in 38 games for the U17 team, scoring 18 goals and 10 assists for 28 points and another 189 penalty minutes. Jones also represented the USA at the 2014 World U17 Hockey Challenge, where his seven goals were the most for that tournament. he added four assists, as well, for the silver medalist U.S. squad.

2015-16: Jones moved over to the OHL to play for the London Knights. He played for Team Cherry at the 2016 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game where he picked up an assist on his team’s 3-2 loss. Jones and his London teammates had a successful 2016 postseason, winning the OHL Championship and Memorial Cup championship. Jones was ranked 11th among North American skaters for the 2016 NHL Draft in NHL Central Scouting’s midterm rankings, and he is currently ranked eighth overall by ISS Hockey. Jones was chosen in the first round, 24th overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft by the Anaheim Ducks.

The 2015-16 season preview for the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) wraps up with the Midwest Division in the league’s Western Conference.

The defending division champs, the Erie Otters, won the division going away in 2014-15, racking up 104 points which was 20 points more than the runner-up London Knights. Of course, that team featured at attack that included Connor McDavid and Dylan Strome, the first and third picks in the 2015 NHL Draft. At least one of those two will not be back in the fold in 2015-16, and a loss of both could make a second straight division title a difficult proposition. Read more»
