History

2008-09: With 34 goals and 43 assists in 56 games for Indiana of the USHL, Michael Cichy showed he could put the puck in the net.  Leading scorer in the playoffs.

2009-10: A rookie season with North Dakota would prove challenging for the young center. Appearing in 23 games with a talented team, Cichy would add 2 goals and 4 points.

2010-11: In his sophomore season, Cichy played a supplementary role in a North Dakota lineup dominated by upperclassmen. He appeared in 25 of the Fighting Sioux' 44 games and scored 3 goals with 4 assists with a -6 plus/minus and 6 PMs. Cichy played his final game for the Fighting Sioux in the regular season finale, an 11-2 win over Michigan Tech. He did not play in the post-season as North Dakota captured the WCHA and NCAA Midwest Regional titles before falling to Michigan in the Frozen Four semifinals. Cichy transferred to Western Michigan following the season.

2011-12: Cichy decided to transfer to Western Michigan University after limited playing time in his freshman and sophomore season at UND. Under the complicated NCAA transfer rules, he was not permitted to play this season for the Broncos but will still have two years of eligibility at WMU.

Talent Analysis

Cichy's strongest asset is his hockey sense and good offensive skills but questions linger about his skating ability and defensive play. He has lost an important year in his development and the talented forward probably would have seen plenty of ice time for the UND fighting Sioux who have had many injuries this season.

Future

Cichy could still benefit from the transfer as the head coach of the WMU Broncos, Andy Murray, has plenty of NHL coaching experience and knows what is required to develop into an NHL caliber player. He will need to crack the starting line-up as a Red-shirted junior and quickly show that his lost year was not a mistake in the upcoming season.

The Montreal Canadiens have a good mix of talent among their prospects playing in Europe and the NCAA. The organization has eight forwards and four defensemen in this group that possesses varying degrees of speed, skill, physicality, size, and grit. These young prospects have shown improvement in their development this year and could add good overall depth to the Canadiens' lineup in the near future.
