History

2006-07: Kostka netted three goals and 18 points in 39 games in his junior season with UMass-Amherst (H-East). The Hockey East All-Academic Team nominee finished third on his club in assists (15) and his plus-11 was good enough for second. He also tallied a four-assist game against UConn, the first of his career.

2007-08: This was the defenseman’s last season with UMass-Amherst (H-East) and it was his most productive to date. As captain, he netted nine goals, including seven power play goals (led team), and 21 points in 36 games. He won a slew of honors this season, being named to Hockey East’s second team and his clubs MVP. He finished the season with a plus-11 and was a Hobey Baker candidate.

2008-09: The Portland Pirates (AHL) blueliner netted four goals and 30 points in his first season as a pro. Expect to see him back next season.

Talent Analysis

Kostka served as a team captain for his college team, and was amongst the team leaders in plus/minus rating and scoring.  He has good ability on the power play, having led all NCAA defensemen in that category in his career.

Future

Kostka was dealt to the Tampa Bay Lightning organization from the Florida Panthers during the 2011-12 season.
