History
Patrick White has played his last four seasons at Grand Rapids High School, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. During that time, he skated on the US U17 Select Team at the U17 Five nations Tournament in Huttwil, Switzerland. Was drafted by the Seattle Thunderbirds in the spring of 2004, but chose to stay and play at home. Was drafted by the Lincoln Stars in the summer of 2005, but again chose to stay and play at his high school. During the 2005-06 season - his junior year - he helped his squad get into the post season and into the state championships. He struck a deal with Lincoln to play before and after his high school season during the 2006-07 season. Grand Rapids got back into the playoffs and won the 7AA Section Championship. He was also named the 2007 Associated Press Minnesota High School Hockey Player of the Year, Associated Press First Team All-State, a Minnesota Mr. Hockey Finalist and earned St. Paul Pioneer Press First Team All State honors. He was selected to the U.S. U18 squad that was set to take the ice in Finland.
2007-08: White didn’t have an easy time securing ice-time with the historic Gophers team. As a result, his offensive production was not where one would hope from an NHL first rounder, with just 10 points in 45 games.
Talent Analysis
White's a creative playmaker that can give a team a lot of confidence. He skates very well and can handle the puck very well in and out of traffic. His biggest strength lies within his all-around game, which the Canucks hope he will hone during his collegiate career.
