2008-09: Most likely due to his size, Jormakka went undrafted last June despite a fairly impressive showing with Team Finland in the Under-18 tournament. Despite that setback, he had a strong summer and after starting off well with the A Juniors split his season between D-Team (Mestis) and JyP in the SM-Liiga. Unfortunately, an illegal hit in one of the Mestis games knocked him out of a few games and the season was marred by nagging injuries which kept him from competing with the Finnish side in the World Junior Tournament. In six exhibition matches vs. Mestis opponents, he scored three goals and added a pair of assists.
Jormakka is a talented forward with a great understanding of the game that allows him to get the most out of his skills and ability. Despite his small stature, he as at a stage of development well above that of many of the players his age. A strong skater and highly skilled stick handler and passer, he plays with a high level of energy and understands the positional and tactical aspects of the game. At this point, the only limitations to his game appear to be his inexperience and physical maturity – both of which should come with time.
