History
2009-10: Petteri Lindbohm played for Kiekko-Vantaa's U18 team. In 31 games he scored 1 goal with 3 assists and had 34 penalty minutes. He was scoreless in three playoff games and had 24 penalty minutes as Kiekko-Vantaa was swept by HIFK.
2010-11: Lindbohm went from Vantaa to Espoo to play for Blues U20 and U18 teams. He represented Finland at the 2012 U18 World Junior Championship. In 41 games with Espoo's U20 team he scored 1 goal with 8 assists and was plus-14 with 56 penalty minutes. In 13 playoff games he had 3 assists and was plus-six with 12 penalty minutes as Espoo reached the SM-Liiga U20 finals. In nine U18 games (including 2 playoff contests) he had 2 goals with 8 assists and had 12 penalty minutes. At the WJC, he was scoreless with no penalty minutes in six games for fifth-place Finland.
2011-12: Lindbohm moved from Espoo to Helsinki to play for Jokerit's U20 team and made his pro hockey debut playing for Kiekko-Vantaa in Mestis. He had 3 assists and was plus-two with 8 penalty minutes in five games for Kiekko-Vantaa. Lindbohm skated in 41 games for Jokerit and scored 3 goals with 7 assists and was plus-15 with a team-high 98 penalty minutes. In 12 playoff games he had 3 assists and was plus-five with 12 penalty minutes. Jokerit reached the SM-Liiga U20 finals, falling to Helsinki rival HIFK. Lindbohm was ranked 46th amongst European skaters in CSS final rankings prior to the 2012 NHL Draft and was selected by St. Louis in the sixth round (176th overall).
Talent Analysis
Lindbohm is a big, physical defender that has good offensive skill with the puck and has a hard point shot. His skating is average but needs technical development, especially his reverse pivoting, stride extension and overall speed. He is poised with the puck, can protect the puck well, moves well in transition but has a tendency to drive too deep to make a good offensive play. The 18-year-old thrives in physical situations, is very hard to knock off balance and loves to play the body aggressively down low in the defensive zone. Only time will tell what kind of future potential this raw talent could have.
Future
Lindbohm will play his second year for Jokerit but could see time in the SM-liiga if he can play well to start the season. He has signed a two year contract extension with Jokerit on December 17, 2012 and will not be available to play in North America until after the 2014-15 season. The Finnish-born defender could represent his country at the 2013 WJC tournament in Ufa, Russia.
