Danault had 2 assists and was minus-five with 10 penalty minutes in his end of the year stint with the Ice Hogs (Rockford did not make the AHL playoffs). He scored 18 goals and was second on the Tigres with 53 assists while finishing plus-11 with 61 penalty minutes in QMJHL play. Victoriaville finished second in the East Division behind eventual Memorial Cup champion Shawinigan but was swept in a first round playoff series with Baie-Comeau. Danault had 3 assists and was minus-one with 4 penalty minutes in four playoff games.
Talent Analysis
Named team captain as a 17-year-old, that fact alone speaks to the quality of character of Danault. A leader both on and off the ice, Danault's effort level can never by questioned. Whether it's scoring a goal, finishing a check, or killing a penalty, he plays an all-weather, two-way game. He has also developed into a dynamic skater capable of making plays at high speed on the rush. Though he might not be naturally skilled enough to be a scoring forward at the next level, his work ethic and skating ability should guarantee a future in the NHL.
Future
Danault could push for a roster spot in Chicago at training camp, but he is most likely destined for a final year of junior hockey in the QMJHL with Victoriaville for the 2012-13 season. He is not far off from playing a top-nine role at the NHL level.
