History
During the 2005-05 season with Drummondville Voltigeurs , Pier-Olivier Pelletier emerged as a strong goalie with a strong first-round playoff series against the Moncton Wildcats. Then he performed admirably for Canada at the U-18 World Championships, nearly stealing the starting job from highly-touted Carey Price.
He started off the 2005-06 season for the Voltigeurs with a nagging hip injury that wouldn’t heal. Pelletier learned that further stress or harm to his labrum could cause permanent damage and quite possibly jeopardize his career. He went on to have season-ending arthroscopic surgery to fix the hip.
Talent Analysis
Pelletier is a late bloomer. At this point, he does not do anything particularly well, has slightly above average reflexes and positioning, and doesn’t appear to be a spectacular athlete. But just as he does nothing great, he does nothing particularly poorly, either. He is a steady goalie who performs well under pressure and maintains his focus. He rarely gives up a bad goal and doesn’t quit on a play.
He received a lot of exposure late in the 2004-05 season and is looking to rebound after missing the majority of the 2005-06 season.
