History
Toronto's last selection in the 2004 draft, Norton was a year older then most 2004 draftees (19). He attends Providence College. Attended Thayer Academy prep school, which counts Jeremy Roenick and Tony Amonte as a few of their notable alumnus.
He notched his first collegiate goal on January 6th, 2006 in the Friars 5-1 win over Boston University.
2006-07: This marked Norton’s second season with the Providence College Friars (Hockey East). He played in 31 games, finishing eighth on the team with a career-high 11 points. He tied for third on the squad with six goals.
2007-08: In his junior year with the Providence College Friars (Hockey East), Norton played in all 36 games with the club. He finished third on the team in points (24) with a career-high 14 goals and 10 assists. He led the Friars in power play goals with seven and had four games in which he scored two goals.
Talent Analysis
Norton is a competitive, tough power forward with good hands who seems to have a scoring touch. As with all young players, Norton needs to work on his skating and footwork before making the jump to the pro level. Norton had never been tested at a high level of competition before Providence.
Future
Norton is a long-range commodity for the Maple Leafs.
