Rob Page

Prospect Grade: 5.5 C  (About Prospect Grades)

History

Page’s tremendous two-way ability make him the best of the Blake School’s three 2004 ranked players. The 6’1.5 defenseman played extensive minutes on the blue line for his high school team whose season ended with a 5-3 loss to Breck School in the Section 5A Final. Page was a finalist for Minnesota's Mr. Hockey award, which is given to the top high school player in that state.

When Columbus made Page their sixth selection of the 2004 Entry Draft, the Jackets had every reason to believe they were getting a bargain. Page fell all the way to the sixth round, where the Jackets made him the 167th player selected in the draft.

2005-06: Page has begun to establish himself as a primary option along the Bulldog blue line. Named the top rookie on the Yale squad following a freshman campaign that saw him finish first in defensive scoring with a pair of goals and nine assists in the Bulldogs 32-game regular season schedule, Page was considered to be one of the top frosh rearguards in the league. His sophomore 2005-06 campaign, however, was something of a disappointment.

After a season and a half of play in the Yale blue and white, Page has shown a solid level of hockey acumen and has, in fact, lived up to his original billing. While injuries have slowed the Minnesota natives development during his sophomore campaign, the sparkling effort turned in by Page as a freshman provides a better read on his potential within the Columbus system.

Talent Analysis

A league coach had this to say about Page: “Page has the ability to start the breakout by himself, utilizing his teammates with a great first pass or by using his legs to move the puck up ice. He makes great decisions in the neutral zone and at the attacking blue line. Page instinctively knows when to step up and when to back off. Plays well on the power play making the right decision nine out of 10 times. Page will bring great skating, good vision, and solid defensive play to the ECAC. He will need to improve his poise in pressure situations as he struggled in some his team’s big games such as the section final against Breck School.”

Future

Page is a junior at Yale.
