The home team did not make much of a splash at the 2014 NHL Draft, failing to trade up for a higher pick in the first round. The Philadelphia Flyers again made defense a priority, drafting Travis Sanheim with their 17th overall pick. They added two more defensemen before the night was done, adding Mark Friedman in the third round.

The Philadelphia Flyers returned to the playoffs this season after a one-year hiatus, although they were unable to move past the first round. After the season ended, the Philadelphia front office promoted then-GM Paul Holmgren to team president while hiring Ron Hextall in his place.

As the 2014 NHL Draft approaches, it is important to take note that the NHL is currently chock full of players hailing from Sweden. In particular, it would have been difficult to find many NHL rosters that lacked a Swede patrolling the blueline this past season.

Several Philadelphia Flyers prospects made the playoffs in their respective leagues. Some played well for their teams, while others were forces as their teams challenged for championships. The Flyers were particularly well represented in the CHL playoffs as well as the NCAA tournament.
