MacMurchy, a ninth round pick in the 2002 NHL Draft, plied his trade with the Nortre Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Hockey League in 2001-02, where he scored 32 goals and 52 assists in 61 games. He made the move up to the University of Wisconsin in 2002-03.
