2007-08: This marked O’Reilly’s first season in the OHL, a 61 game campaign that resulted in 19 goals and 52 points- expect him back with the Erie Otters for the 2008-09 season.  He won a slew of honors with the Otters this season, including being named the clubs Rookie of the Year and Most Sportsmanlike. He also joined up with Team Canada and took home Gold at the 2008 Ivan Hlinka tourney and, serving as team captain, led Team Ontario to a first place finish at the World U17 Hockey Challenge

2008-09: The Erie Otters center had another impressive with the OHL club, netting 16 goals and a career-high 66 points in 68 games; he tallied an additional five helpers through five playoff games with Erie. On top of being named the Otters’ MVP, he also won Player-of-the-Year honors and was the clubs top scorer. He again played for Team Canada, this time at the WJC18 tournament (2g+3a) and competed in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game as well as the Canada-Russia Series (Team OHL).

He captained both the Otters and Team Canada at the U18s. He is the brother of the Nashville Predators' Cal O'Reilly.

HF's January 2009 Q&A with O'Reilly.

Talent Analysis

O'Reilly is a thinking-man's player who has excellent anticipation and knowledge of the game, which enables him to be in the right place at the right time.  O'Reilly's proven to be an excellent penalty killer and excels at the defensive aspects of the game. He's an excellent playmaker who has also shown an increasing aptitude for putting the puck in the net.

Criticisms of O'Reilly are a lack of scoring touch and perimeter play at times.

Future

Projects as a top-six forward with size.  Now on the roster of the Colorado Avalanche.
