History
2006-07: Glennie was Brandon’s second pick (29th overall) in the 2007 bantam draft. He teamed up with fellow rookies Brayden Schenn and Matt Calvert to form one of the highest scoring rookie lines in league history (193 combined points). He finished among the Manitoba AAA Midget League scoring leaders this season.
2007-08: Glennie was one of eight rookies on last year’s club. He finished fifth in WHL Rookie scoring this season, snagging 58 points (26g+32a). He teamed up with linemate Brayden Scheen to help Team Canada capture the gold medal at the prestigious Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in the Czech Republic in August. He also joined Schenn and Brodie Melnychuck on the bronze medal winning Team Western squad at the World Under-17 Challenge in London, Ontario. He scored his first ever WHL goal in his first WHL game on Sept. 21 vs. Saskatoon. He scored seven goals in Brandon’s five final regular season games.
2008-09: Like fellow Wheat King Brayden Schenn, Glennie saw his numbers increase from last season. In 55 regular season games, the center put up 70 points (28g+42a). His 25 PIM showed how disciplined of a player he can be. Registered three goals and 18 points in 12 playoff games.
Talent Analysis
Glennie suffered a major injury this season -- a broken elbow. He has fully recovered and played a huge role in the late season success of the Wheat Kings. A confident, pure goal scorer, Glennie anticipates well and creates havoc for opponents with his speed. He knows his responsibilities on the ice and is a diligent, hard-working junior. Partnered with Brayden Schenn and Matt Calvert (CBJ) during his rookie season to combine as the highest scoring trio in the WHL. Glennie is a right-handed forward who can shoot well off of either foot. He can be effective from the off wing.
Future
Glennie will play an important role in Brandon next season as the city hosts the 2010 Memorial Cup. Glennie has experience in Hockey Canada programs and should get a good look for Team Canada’s next entry at the WJC. There is always room in pro hockey for right-handed shooting forwards who can play either wing. The NHL team that selects Glennie will have plenty of opportunity to watch him develop in high profile events next year. Long-in-the-tooth hockey fans might compare Glennie to former WHLer and Philadelphia Flyer Reg Leach, or a modern-day NHLer like Steve Sullivan.
