History

2009-10: In his final season with Lake Superior, Gysbers would impress enough to sign a deal with the Leafs following 38 games and 15 points. He would spent 14 games with the Marlies, adding an assist.

2010-11: Gysbers was the top offensive defenseman for the Toronto Marlies (AHL) in his first pro season. Gysbers, despite missing time in November, finished with 7 goals and 25 assists and was -4 with 32 PMs in 60 games. Toronto missed the AHL playoffs after finishing fifth in the North Division.

Talent Analysis

A late-blooming offensive defender, Gysbers has shown that he has a knack for creating offense from the blueline. The 6’4 defender has a good transition game, and is able to get the puck through traffic from the back-end. He has a low panic threshold when moving the puck which aids in his transition game. Defensively, Gysbers is a work in progress. Becoming a more aggressive defender for his size would benefit his overall game, as well as being able to read the play defensively.

Future

Gysbers led the Toronto Marlies in defensive scoring in the 2010-11 season and will be counted on to improve those numbers in his sophomore season with the club.

Projection: Low-maintenance, depth defender with offensive capability.
