Prospect Grade: 5.0 C  (About Prospect Grades)

History

A scoring forward all his life, Goulet won Bantam and Midget scoring races before entering the ranks of the QMJHL with the Quebec Remparts. In Quebec he was used primarily as a power play specialist, not often given a regular shift aside from the special teams.

An off-season trade landed Goulet in Moncton where he enjoyed a much bigger role and contributed with a major increase in points.

Talent Analysis

Good size and offensive abilities that were not put to proper use during the 2003-04 season in the QMJHL with the Quebec Remparts.

Goulet is a lanky winger with good speed. His best asset is certainly his open ice speed, which allows him to move quickly into open ice to provide an option for his linemates, especially in the open ice. Goulet struggles with the puck sometimes when receiving hard passes. After starting the season with the Wildcats on the top line, Goulet was moved to the second and third line of the team for the latter stages of the first half of the season. Injuries to the Cats top forwards gave Goulet increased ice time and he truly responded to the challenge.

Goulet, who was getting out-muscled early in the season won more than his share of battles along the boards in the second half of the season. He showed that he is strong on his skates and a competitor by taking punishment from opposing defenders in front of the net, and scoring many of his goals on tip-ins.

Goulet is a very agile player, able to avoid big hits and does an extremely good job holding the line when his team enters the offensive zone. Although his wrist shot is a weakness, he has shown tremendous improvement in both the power and accuracy of his shot throughout the season. Goulet has improved tremendously this season and has a very positive outlook for a seventh round draft pick.

Future

Goulet was reassigned to the AHL and is currently skating with Grand Rapids.
