Regier was drafted when he was nearly 20 by the Islanders in 2004 out of Medicine Hat of the WHL where he enjoyed a successful career.
Regier had an impressive rookie season for Bridgeport of the AHL last season recording 22 points (7 goals, 15 assists) in 75 games for an injury-plagued Sound Tigers team.
2005-06: In 73 AHL games this season, Regier raised his goal total to 16 and his point total to 38. In nine NHL games with the Islanders, he did not register any points
2006-07: Every game left winger Steven Regier has played for the Islanders (10 to date), he has earned through his strong work ethic and solid play. Regier saw one game with the Islanders this season, following the nine he played with them last season. In the one game he played, he saw just under five minutes of ice time and recorded one hit. With the Sound Tigers, Regier played in 77 games, establishing career highs in goals with 19, assists with 27 and points with 46.
The big winger isn’t afraid to mix it up physically and get his nose dirty, and he can also put the puck in the net.
Regier is a solid prospect but his lack of intensity on the ice is holding him back from becoming the player the Islanders thought they were drafting. His days as a prospect are coming to an end. He was not invited to the Islanders prospect's mini-camp are signs that this upcoming season will need to be a big one for Regier if he's to have any chance of playing in the NHL.
