History
Played two seasons for Mike Eaves with the United States National Team Development Program... Won a gold medal at the 2002 World Under-18 Championship held in Piestany, Slovakia...Also won a gold medal at the 2001 World Under-17 Challenge held in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia... Named to the All-Festival team at the 2000 USA Hockey Select 16 Festival held in St. Cloud, Minn.... Played one season for the Washington Junior Capitals in the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League while also playing at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School... Played on the league All-Star team and was named Rookie of the Year for the MJHL... Was twice named to the Washington Post All-Met team for high school... Played two seasons with the Washington Little Capitals.
2002-03: Broke many team records in just his freshman year.
Werner played his junior year with the UMass Minutemen in 2004-05. Werner has had a solid year, and has improved his all-around game. After playing for the gold medal winning U.S. squad in the 2004 WJC, Werner has displayed much more confidence on the ice.
2006-07: Signed to a two-year contract.
Talent Analysis
Werner is a good two-way player with good playmaking and decision-making skills. He has a hard shot and is good through traffic. He could stand to be more physical.
Future
Werner will try to establish himself in Hershey in 2007-08. He may need to become a defensive specialist to move up.
