Steven Goertzen

Prospect Grade: 5.5 C  (About Prospect Grades)

History

Played three seasons in the WHL with the Seattle Thunderbirds. Signed a multi-year contract with the Blue Jackets on March 19, 2004.

Goertzen looked like a keeper during Crunch training camp in 2004 and was even singled out by Syracuse head coach Gary Agnew as one of the bright spots early on.

“I kind of like Steve Goertzen’s game right now,” said Agnew. "He skates well and he seems to make smart plays and good decisions. I don’t know if he is going to score a lot of goals but I think he might be a third line type and if he bangs and gets to the net he might get 10 or 15.”

Talent Analysis

Drives hard to the net and plays physical. Goertzen has speed and skates well. He is strong defensively, makes smart plays and is used effectively on the penalty kill.

Future

Has the potential to make it as a third or fourth liner. Is improving his game.
