2008-09: Kundratek spent his first season in North America with Medicine Hat (WHL) and made his AHL debut, appearing in one game with Hartford in the AHL playoffs. After missing the first month of the season with a broken finger, Kundratek started to play with Medicine Hat in late October. He quickly became a force on the ice and adjusted well to the North American style of play. In 51 games with the Tigers he scored 4 goals with 19 assists and was +8 with 63 PMs. Three of Kundratek’s four regular season goals were with the extra man. Kundratek skated for the Czech Republic in the 2009 World Junior U-20 championship and had six assists (tops amongst Czech defensemen) in six games though the team did not reach the medal round.

2009-10: Kundratek was one of three Medicine Hat defensemen with 30 or more points in his second WHL season as the Tigers finished third in the Central Divison. In 65 regular season games he scored 2 goals with 33 assists and was +13 with 63 PMs. Kundratek skated in all 12 playoff games and was +3 with 1 goal, 5 assists, and 23 PMs. His only playoff goal was scored on the power play.

2010-11: Kundratek moved into pro hockey as a 20-year old, skating for the Rangers’ AHL affiliate Connecticut. In 70 games he scored 2 goals with 10 assists and was an even plus/minus with 42 PMs. The Whale finished third in the Atlantic Division and Kundratek played in all six games in the Whale’s first round playoff loss to Portland. He was -2 with 2 assists and 2 PMs in the playoffs.
