The churning out of quality prospects continues for the Dallas Stars organization. General manager Jim Nill will be looked upon to continue to bolster a very strong and deep organizational depth chart that has few glaring weaknesses at this point in time. With the Texas Stars (AHL) contingent set to defend a title and the Dallas team looking to make a bigger playoff push, the pressure is on this impressive group of youngsters.
The Dallas Stars, amid management and coaching changes, have gathered quite an impressive herd of prospects in recent years. The aforementioned front office changes obviously have a trickle-down effect with regard to the on-ice product and as a result, many of these terrific prospects have gotten at least a taste of NHL action.
The 2012-13 season was a landmark year for the QMJHL. Not only did the Halifax Mooseheads follow a record-breaking season by keeping the Memorial Cup in the CHL's eastern-most league for a third straight year, but the Q was also creating plenty of headlines at the NHL Draft with six QMJHL players selected in the first round. Leading the way was Mooseheads Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Drouin who went first and third overall to the Colorado Avalanche and the Tampa Bay Lightning, respectively.
