History
2005-06: Played for the Red Knights at Benilde-St. Margaret’s prep school in Minnesota. As a captain, he led the team in scoring. He was also named to the All-North Suburban Conference Team.
 
2006-07: Played his first season in the USHL with Cedar Rapids. Was used sparingly in the start of the season but caught on towards the end of the year. Draft eligible year for the NHL, however did not find himself ranked or selected.
 
2007-08: Has emerged as one of the RoughRiders top forwards this season. Earned player of the week honors in the last week of December for a six-point explosion in a two-game series against Ohio. Named to Eastern Division team for the USHL Prospects/All-Star Game.
Talent Analysis
Thompson is a strong player with good mobility and quickness. He has pretty hockey sense to go along with a good set of hands. He works well with the puck and is good down low and around the net.
