History
In 43 games during his rookie season, Dowzak scored one goal and three assists. He finished the regular season with a plus 3 rating and 68 penalty minutes.
A graduate of the renowned Shattuck St. Mary’s program in Minnesota, Dowzak played with a number of top prospects under coaches Tom Ward and Jonathon Austin. The list includes Angelo Esposito, who collected 98 points in his rookie season with the Quebec Remparts and is headed to the 2006 Memorial Cup. Also at Shattuck with Dowzak was projected number one pick Jonathon Toews, who won a gold medal as the youngest member of Team Canada at the WJC and Edmonton Oilers draft choice.
At 6’6 and 225 pounds, Dowzak brings a physical presence to every shift. The 18-year-old missed about eight weeks of action this season after taking a knock on the knee in a game on February 14. He returned to play in the Rockets quarter-final playoff series against the Everett Silvertips, but struggled with the mobility he exhibited during the regular season.
Dowzak, a native of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, played for the victorious Team Orr at the 2006 CHL-NHL Top Prospects Game in Ottawa.
