History
2008-09: Vince Trocheck played for the Detroit Little Ceasar's club. Trocheck was chosen in the second round, 24th overall, of the 2009 OHL Priority Selection by the Saginaw Spirit.
2009-10: In his OHL rookie season, Trocheck played in 68 games for the Spirit. He scored 15 goals and added 28 assists for 43 points. In 6 playoff games, Trocheck scored 2 goals and added 2 assists for 4 points.
2010-11: In 68 games for the Spirit, Trocheck scored 26 goals and added 36 assists for 62 points to go along with 60 penalty minutes. In 12 playoff games, Trocheck scored 6 goals and added 5 assists for 11 points. Trocheck played for Team Orr at the 2011 CHL Home Hardware Top Prospects Game, scoring 1 goal in his team's 7-1 win over Team Cherry.
2011-12: Trocheck was the leading scorer for the OHL's Saginaw Spirit in his third major junior season. He scored 29 goals with 56 assists in 65 games and was plus-15 with 65 penalty minutes. The Spirit turned things around after getting off to a slow start. Saginaw finished third in the West Division and reached the second round in the playoffs. In 12 playoff games Trocheck scored 5 goals with 6 assists and was minus-two with 10 penalty minutes. He was invited to USA Hockey's U20 Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid for the 2013 World Junior Championship in August, 2012.
Talent Analysis
Trochek is always among the hardest workers on the ice. He may not be the most talented player in the rink on any given night, but he uses his vision, hockey smarts and work ethic to become an effective force up and down the ice. He shows good quickness and agility even without a blazing top speed, and he relies on his ability to read plays to get himself into a good position. Trocheck has a reliable shot that he does not hesitate to use, but has shown a marked improvement in creating chances for his teammates and the ability to make the right pass to the right player.
Future
Trochek will again return to Saginaw and the OHL, and despite not making the cut last year, he has an excellent chance of playing for the US in the World Juniors this winter. Trocheck has a bright future in front of him as a two-way NHL forward who could become a good penalty killer and a center that is just difficult to play against. The 2012-13 season will be his final year of junior hockey before embarking on a professional career that will probably see him spending two or three years in the minor leagues as he develops.
