2006-07: Out of Owen Sound of the OHL, Wayne Simmonds battled his way to 49 points and 112 penalty minutes in 66 games. Simmonds was chosen in the second round, 61st overall, of the 2007 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings.
2007-08: Simmonds made a name for himself as a physical presence to be reckoned with on the ice, also earning a roster spot with Team Canada for the WJC. With a solid 75 points in 60 games between Sault Ste. Marie and Owen Sound of the OHL, Simmonds was no slouch on the score sheet while acting as a wrecking ball in front of the net and was more than willing to drop the gloves against any foe.
Simmonds has a lot of raw skills that make him a very interesting prospect as he develops. A good skater with a solid shot, he is also not afraid of physical play and is willing to drop the gloves in defense of his teammates despite his thin frame. Also has a leader-type mentality.
Simmonds has become an established winger at the NHL level.
