Trubachev showed flashes of his skill with SKA St. Petersburg in his draft year, enough to warrant being a mid-round selection by the Flames braintrust. Since then he has improved his understanding of the game and his defensive awareness, however his development has been stunted due to the fact he is buried in the Cherpovets system.
Despite being a mere 5'9, Trubachev has made a reputation of scoring most of his goals from in close, granted that could also be a result of his slow release and weak shot.
Trubachev's talents are truly on display when he gets some open ice and has the opportunity to showcase his silky smooth skating and excellent on-ice vision. He is also a very intelligent player, especially in his own end where he has made a reputation of being defense-first.
Trubachev is in a tough spot playing for Cherpovets as he has been stuck on the fourth line with lesser linemates. While it is certainly stunting his development, there doesn't seem to be much relief in sight for the diminutive forward.
