History

Zach Bearson is a highly-touted power forward who helped lead the Waterloo Black Hawks to their first ever Clark Cup championship in 2003-04. The Naperville, Ill native made great strides on the statistical side of his game in 2004-05 doubling his points total from the year before. He completed the most recent season ranked fifth on the Waterloo roster in scoring with 36 points (18 goals, 18 assists) in 51 appearances. He was a member of Team World in the 2005 USHL Prospects/All-Star game.

2006-07 Season:  Bearson saw very limited ice time this season, in part due to battling illnesses. He played in just five games and posted no points. He was a plus-2 and racked up two penalty minutes.

Talent Analysis

Bearson is a budding power forward who isn’t one to shy away from the physical aspects of the game. He is strong on his skates and makes very good use of his 6’2 frame and long reach. While Bearson gets around the rink pretty well, he needs to work on keeping his feet moving. He is quite good along the boards and in the corners. Bearson possesses a good, strong shot and moves very well with the puck. He also has good hockey sense. He’s willing to drive hard to net and take the punishment necessary in front of it. Increased body strength will be essential to Bearson’s future success.

Future

Bearson will be entering his sophomore year at the University of Wisconsin this fall.
