The Detroit Red Wings have another seventh round pick setting records in the SHL while producing in critical situations. The OHL playoffs continue as the Oshawa Generals turn to their 6’6″ power forward to help eliminate a rival team, while another OHL veteran heads off to the AHL and immediately makes an impact. Staying with the OHL, the Erie Otters top tandem strikes again, eliminating the London Knights in fine fashion. The CHL playoffs continue this weekend, with second round action on tap. In the OHL, an import forward and one of the most dynamic players in the league go head-to-head. The QMJHL matchup features two international players with rare hockey backgrounds in an interesting look at teams putting the pieces together. Meanwhile, in the WHL, a slumping power forward is hoping to put a few past an underrated goaltender playing behind a powerful offense. Since the days of Mats Naslund, the Montreal Canadiens have been on the forefront of European scouting. This is the organization that drafted Viacheslav Fetisov in 1978 and Vladislav Tretiak in 1983, anticipating the Russian invasion by over a decade. Even a cursory glance over their NHL roster confirms that the Habs have nurtured a fruitful European pipeline. All three CHL leagues begin playoff action this weekend. There are three particularly interesting games on hand, games that feature a mix of high-end prospects and valuable role players as teams in the OHL, QMJHL, and WHL collide. Meanwhile, the NCAA Tournament begins this weekend, and one matchup in particular is worthy of extra attention.
