Despite graduating phenomenal young players like Alex Galchenyuk, Brendan Gallagher, and Michael Bournival, the Montreal Canadiens prospect pool continues to look strong. While restocking, the Canadiens have also managed to diversify their prospect pool, developing players of many different styles and capabilities at all positions.

The Montreal Canadiens‘ prized off-season signing started paying dividends on Thursday night. Forward Jiri Sekac, a native of the Czech Republic who starred in the KHL last season before being signed by the Habs back in July, scored his first NHL goal in his team’s 6-4 win over the Boston Bruins in the Habs’ home opener. The Western Conference’s North Division is another AHL division with a new team as the Calgary Flames moved their AHL club from Abbotsford, BC to Glens Falls, NY. The now Adirondack Flames are in the North Division, while the Lake Erie Monsters have been moved to the Midwest Division. Read more»

The Fall edition of the Hockey’s Future ranking of the Top 50 NHL prospects continues with the prospects ranked 31-40. This section of the ranking features several talented forwards, including Tomas Jurco (DET) and Curtis Lazar (OTT), who will push for playing time in the NHL this season.

A lighter preseason slate on Wednesday night meant fewer NHL prospects in action, but there were a few noteworthy prospects from those games nonetheless. An offensive outburst in the game between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Carolina Hurricanes provided the most noteworthy prospect moments, with a couple more sprinkled in from the remaining games.
