The postseason tournaments are underway in college hockey, while the regular seasons in the three CHL leagues wrap up this weekend. Chicago Blackhawks forward Artemi Panarin — the leading scorer amongst all rookies — takes over the top spot from the Detroit Red WingsDylan Larkin in the Hockey’s Future Calder Trophy poll for February. But the big development is the scoring exploits of pre-season favorite Connor McDavid and Philadelphia Flyers‘ defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere, which have made the race a four-player contest. In NCAA and Europe Arizona Coyotes prospects offer more than mere depth

The Arizona Coyotes spring Top 20 was chock-full of players excelling in the junior hockey ranks, with a few young pros added in for good measure. Many of the honorable mentions – the players just outside the Top 20 –  are playing college hockey or pro hockey in Europe. A few long-term projects may not pan out as professional players, but others are on track for a role with the Coyotes if all goes well. With playoffs right ahead, here is a look at what the college and European group has accomplished in 2015-16 so far.

With the game on the line, Jack Eichel was cool, calm, and collected with just seconds left on the clock. Likewise, David Pastrnak wasn’t even looking at the net when he sniped Cam Ward’s water bottle. This time of year provides young players an opportunity in the NHL, and Chris Bigras and Zach Hyman took advantage of it to score their first NHL goals. Tigers’ Schneider leads short list of WHL goaltenders with NHL ties

In past years, the ranking of the WHL goaltenders used a criteria whereby the goaltenders listed would all be drafted and or signed by NHL teams. Based on these parameters this season, the list is short, with only three netminders making the grade. Read more»
