2014 Traverse City Tournament: Stars, Blue Jackets prospects shine in early games

The prospects of eight NHL teams arrived in Traverse City, MI late last week for five days of intense competition and to showcase their skills at the 2014 Traverse City Prospects Tournament. Futures from the Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues took to the ice starting Friday and will continue to battle until the championship game on Tuesday evening. A selection of prospects from eight NHL teams have descended on Traverse City, MI for the 2014 edition of that city’s annual prospects tournament. Futures from the Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues will battle it out for prospect supremacy at the biggest of the NHL prospects tournaments. The Columbus Blue Jackets have had a nice flow of prospects over the past few seasons. With players like Boone Jenner and Dalton Prout among others emerging in the NHL, the second wave of Blue Jackets’ prospects are chomping at the bit to get their shot.

The Columbus Blue Jackets were coming off a successful seasons entering the 2014 NHL Draft and the future looks bright for the youthful team. After having three first round picks and eight overall picks in last year’s draft, Columbus was able to address a lot of its offensive needs. This year GM Jarmo Kekalainen put together a balanced draft that added depth to the Blue Jackets’ system in every area.
