Prospect Faceoff: Two great AHL stories go head-to-head, other top prospects matchup from around the globe

In the AHL, one player who is ascending back to top prospect status goes head-to-head against a record-setting goaltender. In NCAA action, the Big Ten may be decided this weekend as the two top teams and their leaders clash. The battle for the last playoff spot in the OHL’s Western Conference heats up with a pivotal game between two of the teams fighting to get in. Finland has consistently produced NHL-caliber goalies in recent years. While some were never drafted and signed after establishing themselves in the domestic Liiiga — such as Chicago’s Antti Raanta or Antti Niemi of San Jose — there have also been some high profile draft picks like Tuukka Rask and Pekka Rinne who are enjoying great NHL careers. Prospect Faceoff: 2015 draft prospects square off in WHL and QMJHL action, and other prospect matchups

In this week’s Prospect Faceoff, two sets of draft-eligible players go to head-to-head in critical games for their respective teams. In the OHL, two of the most improved players will see game action against each other. In addition, polar opposite defensemen lead their teams in a pair of NCAA games this weekend. This past week has been full of creative and jaw-dropping NHL prospect highlights. One QMJHL goaltender sets an unusual new standard in goal scoring, while another has yet to lose since making his NHL debut. A hometown hero breaks hearts by scoring with the “Forsberg move” in a clutch situation, and the future first overall pick displays why he deserves that accolade yet again.
