In this special edition of Prospect Impressions, we kick off the first of our “Best of the Year” series with some of the best saves of the season. Goaltenders were featured heavily throughout the season, with a number of fine saves making their way into our highlight articles in 2015-16. There were a number of special efforts, including one goalie who made a save on his stomach, another who stymied a 2-on-0 breakaway, and a few glove saves that should be investigated for robbery. The Calder Trophy race is in full swing, and it appeared to be a three horse race heading into the rest of the regular season, but Shayne Gostisbehere is making a case to join Jack Eichel and others featured in this week’s Prospect Impressions. In this special edition of Prospect Impressions, goaltenders from the NHL, AHL, and junior hockey take over to make a week’s worth of highlight-reel saves. King Henrik stood tall on home ice in New York before making news off it, and fellow NHL netminders Reto Berra and Jake Allen kept pace right behind him. Two rookie goaltenders with NCAA pedigrees squared off in the first NHL start for each, but only one could come away a winner. The victorious goaltender, Mike Condon of the Montreal Canadiens, outdueled Ottawa Senators rookie Matt O’Connor to give the undefeated Canadiens a 3-1 win. Condon stopped 20 of 21 shots to secure his first NHL win. Read more»
