Heading into the 2012 NHL Draft, it was a bit of a guessing game as to where center Alex Galchenyuk would land in the first round.  But Galchenyuk didn't have to wait long for that answer as the Montreal Canadiens nabbed the talented pivot with the third pick overall.

The 2011-12 NHL season for the Montreal Canadiens was one of the worst in their storied history. The team finished a tumultuous year having fired an assistant coach, a head coach, and a GM while accumulating only 78 points, good for last place in the Eastern Conference.

Below is the bottom third of the ranking of the prospect depth of the NHL organizations as voted by the Hockey's Future staff. To determine the ranking, each team's entire prospect pool was taken into consideration. For reference, just the top five prospects are listed. To be eligible, a prospect must meet HF's prospect criteria. The rankings are done twice each season, in the fall and spring.

Montreal Canadiens well represented at 2012 Memorial Cup

The Montreal Canadiens' prospects at the professional level were unable to gain any playoff experience this season as the teams failed to make the NHL and AHL playoffs. This spring, only the CHL prospects were experiencing playoff hockey as the European and NCAA prospects had already finished up for their years.

The 2012 HF Awards are based on the Canadiens prospects 2011-12 regular seasons performances in all the leagues in which they have played this year. The award winners are selected by the HF writers and decided on after all the opinions of the HF staff have been tabulated.
