#1 Strength- Vision and creativity.
#1 Weakness- Size.
Playing with Rouyn-Noranda, the QMJHL’s top offensive team, Ribeiro was on fire the entire season. He averaged 2.42 points per game and won the CHL scoring race by an astonishing 32 points. His +52 was a product of his great offensive skills, while his 8 short handed goals testified to his intelligence and ability to create offense in almost any situation. Which is why he was named the QMJHL’s offensive player of the week 3 times. His penalty minutes have more than doubled compared to last year, an indication that he drew much more attention from his opponents, but did not back down.

Ribeiro finished the season with his 100th assist in a 6-2 win over Val D’or.(end of regular season)

Projection at NHL level- Second line center.
Current Stock Status- On the rise.

#1 Strength- Winner’s attitude.
#1 Weakness- Inconsistency.
With the trade of Thibeault and the arrival of Hackett, Theodore was surprised and angered by his demotion to Fredericton. The main reason for his demotion was his inconsistent play. He has recently come to accept his demotion and was recently named the AHL’s player of the week. Barring injury, Theodore is guaranteed a large workload down the stretch and into the playoffs.

Theodore finished the week 1-0-1, with a GAA of 3.00. He stopped 36 shots in a 4-4 tie with Portland, and stopped 30 shots in an 8-2 thrashing of St.John’s. (Week ending 3/13/99)

#1 Weakness- Inconsistency.
With the trade of Thibeault and the arrival of Hackett, Theodore was surprised and angered by his demotion to Fredericton. The main reason for his demotion was his inconsistent play. He has recently come to accept his demotion and is playing exceptionally well. He was just named the AHL’s player of the week and is proving himself too good for the AHL. Fredericton will go as far in the playoffs as Theodore (and his reputation as a good pressure goaltender) takes them.

Theodore finished the week a dismal 0-3, with a GAA of 3.66. he stopped 25 shots in a 3-1 loss to Rochester, stopped 31 shots in a 3-1 loss to Springfield, did not play in a 3-3 tie with Philadelphia, and stopped 23 shots in a 5-4 loss to Providence.(Week ending 3/7/99)

Montreal Canadiens Top junior Prospects Update

Montreal has drafted Centers as their top two picks in each of the last two drafts. But goaltending still remains their deepest position, with Garon and Theodore projected to be number one goalies at the NHL level. Currently the Habs have only adequate prospects on defense. A defenseman with the ability to quarterback the power play has remained ever elusive. Only two of the Habs current defensemen were drafted by the team.

Ribeiro’s output of 6 points in 3 games is slightly below his season average. He had 2 points in a 6-5 win over Acadie-Bathurst, 2 goals and 2 assists in a 7-4 win over Rimouski and was shut out in a 4-0 loss to Shawinigan. (Week ending 2/21/99)
