Sophomore Jordan Schmaltz (STL) is in the midst of a breakout season with the University of North Dakota and is one of college hockey’s rising young defensemen. The Verona, WI native currently co-leads the team with 23 points (six goals, 17 assists) in 40 games. He and senior defensive partner Dillon Simpson (EDM) comprised arguably the NCHC’s best defensive tandem this season.
At 5’6” and 172 pounds, Rocco Grimaldi is one of the smallest players in all of college hockey, but he is also one of the most dynamic. The Rossmoor, CA native’s developmental progress has allowed him to reach new heights and become more of a rounded player. Grimaldi currently leads the University of North Dakota with 39 points (17 goals, 22 assists) in 41 games to date.
Michael Brodzinski (SJS) is part of a young but outstanding group of defenseman for the University of Minnesota this season. The Ham Lake, MN native is the younger brother of St Cloud State forward Jonny Brodzinski (LAK). The younger Brodzinski has played in 24 games to date for Minnesota, posting 13 points (six goals, seven assists).
Boston College forward and Calgary Flames prospect Johnny Gaudreau is the Hockey's Future Prospect of the Month for March. The player known as "Johnny Hockey" was a standout last month, managing six goals and eight assists through six games, including a six-point night against the University of Denver on March 29th.
