While there appeared to be some nerves early on among the group of 40 players competing at the 2014 BMO CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Calgary, the teams were able to find a way to settle in and provide at least two periods of fast-paced, entertaining hockey.

While the BMO CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game marks the first competitive opportunity on Saddledome ice for Ryan MacInnis of the Kitchener Rangers, there is a long history of his family’s success in the building that accommodates the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League. Ryan's father, Hockey Hall of Fame defenseman Al MacInnis, spent parts of 13 seasons with the Flames, including the Stanley Cup-winning campaign in 1988-89.

Brendan Perlini is the only player at the 2014 BMO CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game who was born in England. He is also proof-positive that the road to hockey success can be one traveled in a rather unique fashion.

With 40 of the top junior players from the Canadian Hockey League arriving in this bustling National Hockey League city in wintery western Canada, there is a very solid chance this annual all-star game of sorts will capture plenty of attention from Calgary and area sports fans when Team Cherry faces off against Team Orr in the 2014 BMO CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on Wednesday night.

For some members of Finland's 2014 World Junior Championship entry, it was a final opportunity to win a gold medal at the U20 level. For Finnish defenseman Mikko Vainonen, it was his first and only chance to win gold at that level, and he made the most of it.
