Canada opened the 2014 World Junior Championship with an offensive display, posting a 7-2 victory over Germany. 12 different Canadian players made the scoresheet in this game, the most prominent being forward Anthony Mantha, who potted a hat trick in the win.

There's an old saying that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Although Canada is definitely a hockey mad country, especially when it comes to the World Junior Championship tournament, the brain trust at Hockey Canada has changed their approach to selecting their 2014 Under-20 team in hopes of once again finding a golden result.

In the 2012-13 season, the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles were the worst team in the QMJHL, if not the entire CHL. Coming on the heels of two lackluster seasons of rebuilding, the Eagles won just 14 games out of the 68-game schedule and endured lengthy injuries to their top players at every position.

No news is good news if you're Kootenay Ice center Sam Reinhart, at least when it comes to the ISS Hockey December rankings for the 2014 NHL Draft. Reinhart is holding steady as the top-ranked prospect for the coming year's draft, a position he has held in these rankings for the four releases that ISS Hockey has produced in the 2013 portion of this season.

Chicoutimi Sagueneens left wing Charles Hudon doesn't have great memories of last year's World Junior Championship. Hudon injured his back in a pre-tournament contest, an injury that kept him out of the entire WJC and was a bother for most of the remainder of his 2012-13 season.
